Vegas - Day 1
I just arrived in Vegas for the Gartner Data Center Conference. I took the shuttle bus to the MGM where we are staying from the airport and noticed that there is a subtle but substantive increase in the amount of risque advertising that is visible. It could be that last time I didn't notice it because I was trying to focus on where I was going, but I will say that it is very noticable this time.
Steve suggested that it's because of the economy that they are trying to keep business up by going hostile! He may be right. Because I also noticed that they now charge for WI-FI where last year it was free so I've resorted to tethering my trusty Blackberry which performs wonderfully and is a great way of skirting arount the $14 a day wi-fi charge that they try to get from you.
I was initially placed in a room with a single king-size bed. It was VERY small and about a quarter mile from the elevators in the "WEST WING". It had a small portal window behind that was inaccessable behind the bed so I opted out of it and got a room with 2 full-sized beds which is really roomy. It's right near the elevators which might be a problem too, but for now it's fine. This picture is of my new room, check out the window!
Steve called and said he was hungry, so we went out to WichCraft who despite the name makes the great sandwiches and is in the hotel. There just better not be any sorcery involved :) It's pricey though, I plopped down $15 for a corned beef reuben a coke and fries, but it's a good thing I'm on a per-diem :)
After we got back, I unpacked and got all my gadgets connected. You know 2 phones, 1 Zune, 1 camera, 1 mini-disc recorder, 2 power supplies, and 1 external hard drive. I also have my newest gadget that my sweet baby bought me: A new Sonic Care electronic toothbrush.
Since getting this new baby I am convinced that there are now two groups of people in the world. Those who have a Sonic Care Electronic Toothbruch and those who don't. I have to warn you though, this thing takes a little getting used to. The first time I used it was like bitting a electric razor, but once you realize how clean your teeth feel after you've used it you're hooked. In short, get one!!! Thanks Sweetie!
On another note, I've chosen to grow a beard while I'm out here. Call it the rebel in me. At work we have to be clean shaven and it gets old after a while so I figured that while I'm away from the office, I'll grow out my beard. I took a look in the mirror and was shocked at how grey I'm getting. I might have to break out the Grecian Formula in a minute! Ha!
